March 2010

Graham steps down - After 11 years running and co-hosting Come Strut Your Stuff Graham Holland has decided to call it a day. Don't worry though - Come Strut Your Stuff will continue in the capable hands of Tony Kehoe and Dave Harley. And Graham has promised to pop in every so often if only to inflict his daft songs on everyone!

Stan bows out - Stan the Harper has also decided the time is right to step down. Stan has been entertaining visitors to the Egg Cafe and the monthly Come Strut Your Stuff event since before even Graham got involved and the event will never be quite the same without him and the wonderful sound of his harp. Stan - we take our hats off to you and salute a legend. Thanks for everything.

February 2011

RIP Toddy - We were shocked to hear the news of the death of Toddy (Paul Todd). He had been a semi-regular performer at The Egg since 2006 and entertained everyone with his funny original songs and equally funny parodies. He was a talented and creative soul who died far, far too young.

November 2010

Many thanks to Dominic Murphy for his review of Come Strut Your Stuff in Nerve Magazine this month.

You can read it in full here.

July 2009

Thanks to Keith Ainsworth from Ark Images for his excellent photos of recent Come Strut Your Stuff events. We thought they were so good that they deserved their own page which you can visit by clicking here.

August 2008 - Thanks to Nick

August 2008 will be the first 'Egg' since 2004 without Nick Payne who is stepping down from his hosting role at Come Strut Your Stuff. Nick has been performing at the Egg for many years, and when I left Liverpool in 2004 to spend a year in Taiwan Nick filled the gap and co-hosted with Pat and Beryl. When I returned to Liverpool Pat and Beryl left due to health reasons and Nick continued co-hosting with me.

I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Nick for the last 4 years, and the last 3 years hosting with me. He brought his own inimitable sense of humour to his role as co-host which will be missed. I'd like to wish Nick all the best for his future ventures, including his band Tiger Lily, and hope to see him strutting his stuff at The Egg Cafe in the future.

January 2008 - Beryl C Phillips

Beryl C PhillipsIt was with great sadness that I returned from holiday overseas to hear of the passing of Beryl Phillips just before Christmas.

Beryl was a talented poet, performer and a proud Scouser. I first met Beryl in 1998 at a poetry event at the (now defunt) Ropes Bar on Bold Street. It was she who invited me to the event that she'd heard about at The Egg Cafe. I went along with Beryl and Pat Fearon and we became regular visitors and performers. In May 2000 when the students who were running the event at The Egg announced that it would be finishing Pat, Beryl and myself all arrived at the final event with the same idea - to keep it going. And so Come Strut Your Stuff was born.

Beryl, Pat and I ran Come Strut Your Stuff from August 2000 to April 2004 when I left to live in Taiwan for a year. My shoes were amply filled by Nick Payne. When I returned from Taiwan in April 2005 Beryl took the decision to stop going to the Egg. In the end it was the climb up the stairs that got the better of her!

Beryl passed away in the Marie Curie Centre in Woolton Village. She will be missed.
